I started this website in hopes of promoting my budding food business, but now I am realizing how much more this website can be. I plan to use this website to highlight my cooking services, share new recipes, and highlight small farmers in the Triangle. Last, I plan to use this website as a platform to improve and refine my cooking technique.
While I love to cook, I am completely self-taught. I have so much more to learn and really desire to refine my skills and continue to learn. It takes 10,000 hours to become an expert, right?
In the spirit of always learning and practicing, I’ve come across Essentials of Cooking by James Peterson. This book is a fantastic resource and one of the most practical I’ve seen. Each technique is laid out, step-by-step, with an appropriate photo. My favorite part about the book is that there are no actual recipes – it’s all about mastering the technique or skill, and then applying it in a recipe or making your own from it.
There are a number of techniques I’ve already practiced time and time again, but there are others that I’ve truthfully either attempted once or twice, or not at all. Therefore, I will be embarking on a journey, and I’d hope that you would follow me along. Each week, I will be working on a skill or technique, and describe my experience. Hopefully I will include photos of each process along the way.
I invite you to join me as I embark on this adventure! 🙂
